Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter[2][3] (born September 4, 1981), known mononymously as Beyoncé (pron.: /biˈjɒnseɪ/ bee-YON-say), is an American singer, songwriter, dancer and actress. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she enrolled in performing arts schools and was first exposed to singing and dancing competitions as a child. Knowles rose to fame in the late 1990s as the lead singer of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time.
During the hiatus of Destiny's Child, Knowles
released her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love,
in 2003, which spawned two number-one singles on the Billboard
Hot 100—"Crazy
in Love" and "Baby Boy"—and
became one of the most successful albums of that year, earning her a then
record-tying five Grammy Awards.
Following the disbandment of Destiny's Child in 2005, Knowles released her
second solo album, B'Day, in 2006,
which spawned the top five singles "Déjà Vu",
"Irreplaceable" and "Beautiful Liar". Her third solo album I Am... Sasha
Fierce (2008), spawned the hit singles "If I Were a Boy", "Single
Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", "Halo"
and "Sweet
Dreams". The album helped Knowles earn six Grammys in 2010,
breaking the record for most Grammy Awards won
by a female artist in one night. Knowles' fourth solo album, 4
(2011), became her fourth consecutive number one album on the Billboard

Beyoncé will be the focus of an intimate feature-length HBO documentary film
debuting Feb. 16, 2013, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president,
HBO Programming. Directed by the superstar, the film is a fusion of video that
provides raw, unprecedented access to the private entertainment icon and
high-voltage performances.
“Everybody knows Beyoncé’s music, but few know Beyoncé the person,” said Lombardo. “Along with electrifying footage of Beyoncé onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.”
“HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity,” said Beyoncé. “Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home."
The film is a multi-faceted portrait of the 16-time Grammy Award-winning singer, businesswoman, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, wife and mother, showing off the extraordinary gifts that have made her a global phenomenon, and stripping away the veneer of stardom. It includes extensive first-person footage, some of it shot by Beyoncé on her laptop, in which she reflects on the realities of celebrity, the refuge she finds onstage and the transcendent joy of becoming a mother last year

actress and model. Beyoncé was named Billboard’s Top Female Artist of the 2000s
in February 2009 as well as their Artist of the Millennium in May 2011. She was
the RIAA’s top certified and best-selling overall artist of the decade and the
NRJ Music Awards also awarded her as their Artist of the Decade in France.
Having welcoming daughter Blue Ivy
in January, Beyonce and Jay Z will be celebrating their first holiday as a
family of three.
